BBN Labs — Better Business Network

Business upgrades in Alberta

BBN Labs serves Alberta businesses remotely with digital work while local partner coverage develops, and we already track Alberta's headline programs: the Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant reimburses employer training on continuous intake (50/50 to $5,000 per trainee, more when hiring unemployed Albertans), the Alberta Manufacturing Productivity Grant offers up to $30,000 matching for technology upgrades until October 31, 2026, and Edmonton's storefront grants run fixed intake windows, the next in November 2026.

The local picture

Alberta's current small-business programs run through two provincial grants we track closely. The Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (successor to the Canada-Alberta Job Grant) is the training workhorse: continuous intake through its portal, 50/50 cost-share to $5,000 per trainee per fiscal year, rising to 75% and $10,000 when hiring unemployed Albertans, under a $100,000 annual employer cap.

Manufacturers have a sharper-edged opportunity: the Alberta Manufacturing Productivity Grant, administered by Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, offers up to $30,000 in matching funding for technology and machinery upgrades. It runs first-come, first-served until October 31, 2026 (funding permitting), for Alberta manufacturers with 5–750 employees and 2+ years incorporated, with projects complete by year-end.

Edmonton storefront businesses inside Business Improvement Areas work on a calendar: the Storefront Improvement Grant (50% matching to $25,000 mid-block, $50,000 corner) opens in fixed windows (the next runs November 1–30, 2026), while the smaller Storefront Refresh stream (50% to $1,000) stays open first-come. Work started before approval is ineligible in both.

Frequently asked questions

Can BBN Labs handle an Edmonton storefront project?

We can design it: concepts, mockups and the application-ready document package built around Edmonton's design principles. We also screen the November intake window honestly. Physical fabrication and installation need qualified Edmonton-area partners, which we confirm before quoting rather than assuming. The City decides eligibility, and work started before approval is ineligible.

We're an Alberta manufacturer. What's worth checking first?

As of June 2026, the Manufacturing Productivity Grant deadline math: applications run until October 31, 2026, first-come while funding lasts, with projects complete by December 31. If a technology upgrade is on your roadmap anyway, screening fit early beats discovering the queue in October. CME administers and decides; we help scope the digital portions and quotations.
