Frequently asked questions

How do small business grants work in Canada?

Federal, provincial and city governments all run programs that help small businesses upgrade. Some pay part of a project's cost (grants and rebates), some lend on better terms than a bank (loans), and some come back at tax time (tax credits). Every program has its own rules, deadlines and paperwork, and most want you approved before you spend a dollar. That last part matters: buy first and you can lose funding you would have received.

Is BBN's funding help free?

Yes. Finding programs that fit your business, checking the rules and guiding your application costs you nothing. BBN makes its money doing the upgrade work the funding helps pay for: the signage, the website, the POS system, the renovation. You never pay us to find funding.

Do I have to pay back a grant?

No. A grant is money you keep, as long as you follow the program's rules. A loan gets paid back, a rebate refunds part of what you spent, and a tax credit comes off your taxes. Every program on this site is labelled clearly, so you always know which kind of money you're looking at. A loan is never called a grant here.

What kinds of upgrades can funding pay for?

More than most owners expect: signs and storefront renovations, websites and e-commerce, online ordering and booking, POS systems, digital menu boards, energy-efficient equipment, accessibility upgrades and staff training. What's covered depends on the program and your province. The fit check matches your project to programs that actually fund it.

How fast do I hear back after the fit check?

A real person from BBN calls you within 24 hours. Not a call centre, not an automated email chain. You'll talk through your matches, what the money could cover, and what happens next.

Do you submit the application for me?

You stay the applicant and you approve everything. BBN finds the program, preps what it needs, and guides you through the paperwork and deadlines so nothing slips. Most owners lose funding to missed steps, not rejections. Keeping you on track is a big part of what we do.

Is BBN Labs a government agency?

No. BBN Labs is an independent Canadian company, not affiliated with any government, funding agency or program administrator, and the final approval decision always belongs to the program. What we bring is the legwork: verified program information and a team that does the upgrade work.

Which parts of Canada does BBN serve?

All of it. We track verified programs in every province and territory, Quebec included, plus city grants in more than 75 municipalities from Victoria to St. John's. We work with businesses across the country, online and on-site.

How do I know the program information is current?

Every program record shows the date we last checked it against the official source, and many pages quote the official program page directly. Programs change, budgets run out and deadlines move, which is exactly why we track them. If a program is closed, the page says so.

What does the funding fit check actually do?

You answer three quick questions: what your business is, where it is, and what you want to upgrade. It matches you against our verified registry and shows what may fit, then a real person follows up within 24 hours. It's free, and nothing gets submitted anywhere.
