Restaurant Kitchen & Energy Efficiency
Restaurant kitchens burn energy like few other businesses, and utilities across Canada pay to fix that — Ontario's kitchen-ventilation program, for example. BBN Labs screens your kitchen against live programs. The big one is Enbridge's DCKV Installation Program. It currently covers installed demand-control ventilation costs for qualifying independent kitchens. The install deadline is November 27, 2026. We also screen Save on Energy's free small-business direct-install measures and set rebates for specific equipment. Qualified mechanical partners do the work; we coordinate fit, quotes and the calendar.
What you get
- Kitchen-specific incentive screening (gas and electric programs)
- Demand-control kitchen ventilation (DCKV) program coordination
- Refrigeration, lighting and smart-thermostat measures via partners
- Eligibility pre-checks: ownership structure, gas usage, account standing
- Free-assessment scheduling with program delivery agents
- Deadline tracking: the current DCKV window requires installation by Nov 27, 2026
- Documentation through to incentive close-out
What it fixes
- Exhaust fans run full-blast all day regardless of what's cooking
- Walk-in refrigeration bleeds money through old controls
- Incentive deadlines pass while the kitchen is too busy to notice
- Franchise vs independent rules are confusing and getting them wrong wastes weeks
Where a project includes physical work, it is completed by licensed contractors BBN coordinates.

How a project runs
01
Kitchen profile: equipment, exhaust capacity, gas/electric usage, ownership
02
Screen against live programs; flag what may fit and what clearly doesn't
03
Book official assessments; partners quote
04
Approvals first, then installation scheduled around your service hours
05
Close-out: training, documentation, savings visible on the next bills

The honest read on funding
Two current Ontario examples. Enbridge's DCKV program covers installed ventilation costs by exhaust tier, for qualifying independently owned kitchens cooking with gas. Save on Energy installs up to ~$5,500 of lighting and refrigeration measures free for small businesses. First-come budgets and deadlines apply; the utilities decide eligibility.

Restaurant Growth & Efficiency Care Plan
A restaurant that looks sharp and runs lean, with regulars coming back month after month.
Most independent restaurants already juggle enough vendors. What helps is one team watching the whole picture. This care plan combines the visible upgrades, from website and menus to photography and a signage review, with the operational ones: loyalty, reviews and screening for energy-efficiency incentives your kitchen may qualify for. One team watches the whole picture and sees every piece through.

Equipment and efficiency upgrades screened for incentives and coordinated end to end.
When the project is equipment, lighting or HVAC, we assess the need, screen the utility incentives the project may qualify for, and manage contractor quotations and documentation from first visit to final claim. Where a digital upgrade would strengthen the same project, we propose it alongside; all incentive outcomes remain subject to program rules, available funding, and approval.

Frequently asked questions
What is demand-control kitchen ventilation in plain terms?
Sensors and variable-speed controls that make exhaust fans match actual cooking activity instead of running flat-out all shift. Fans are among a kitchen's hungriest loads, and they also dump your heated or cooled air outside. Slowing them when the line is quiet saves on both ends.
We're a franchise location. Do the kitchen programs apply?
Enbridge's current DCKV installation program targets independently owned small and mid-size businesses, so franchise structures need case-by-case confirmation with Enbridge. Other measures (lighting, refrigeration, prescriptive incentives) may still fit. We check before anyone books an assessment.
