BBN Labs — Better Business Network

Business upgrades in Windsor

BBN Labs is based in Windsor–Essex and works across the city daily. For Windsor storefronts, the headline local opportunity is the Main Streets Community Improvement Plan: matching grants covering 50% of eligible façade costs (up to $30,000, or $60,000 for larger multi-storefront buildings) in designated main-street areas. A pre-application meeting and signed agreement are mandatory before any work starts. We scope projects, prepare visualizations and coordinate the three contractor estimates the City requires.

The local picture

Windsor's Main Streets CIP applies in designated areas including the Wyandotte Town Centre, Walkerville, Ford City, Pillette Village, Erie Street, Olde Riverside and Ottawa Street BIA areas, plus a stretch of Ouellette Avenue. Address matters: the first step is confirming your building sits inside a designated boundary.

One nuance owners miss: Windsor's CIP has no standalone signage grant. Signs are supported only as part of a broader façade improvement project, so a sign-only plan may be worth widening into a façade scope, or may simply be a straightforward business investment.

Beyond the CIP, Windsor businesses draw on the full range of Ontario programs: OCI retail and digital grants, Save on Energy programs, Enbridge kitchen and equipment incentives, and the region's Starter Company Plus cycle for newer businesses.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Windsor address in a Main Streets CIP area?

The designated areas cover specific BIA corridors and main streets listed in the City's program guide, not the whole city. Confirm your exact address with City planning staff (the guide lists CIP@citywindsor.ca); we can help you read the boundary maps and frame the pre-application conversation.

Can I get a Windsor grant for just a new sign?

Windsor's current CIP doesn't offer a standalone signage grant. Signage counts only within a broader façade project. If your building could use more than a sign, the façade route may make the whole project more sensible; if not, a sign is still often worth doing on its own merits. We'll give you a straight answer either way.
